The Indian community in Ghana traces back to 1890, when Sindhi merchant Bhai Boolchand became the earliest documented individual Indian settler on the Gold Coast -- a genuinely distinctive, trading-community-led history quite different from the business-diaspora pattern this platform found in Nigeria. Estimates of the community's current size range from roughly 4,000 to roughly 15,000 depending on the source, concentrated mainly in Accra. Legal questions that reach back into India -- property, succession, taxation -- apply the same underlying Indian law regardless of country of residence, alongside Ghana-specific realities such as Ghana not being a Hague Apostille Convention member, the complete absence of an India-Ghana tax treaty, a plural inheritance-law system built around the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), and a constitutional 50-year cap on foreign leasehold interests in land.
